say nothing meaningful in their blogs. This Hong Kong blog, EAST-SOUTH-WEST-NORTH, is the opposite; it has no personality but delivers illuminating contents.
This is a bi-lingual Hong Kong and China news blog, some sort of news digest. Major and off-beat news, and excerpts from blogs and a wide array of newspapers are here in one place for the viewers to read. The translations for the articles and news reportings in this blog are outstanding. It is evident that they are done by someone who is fluent in both Chinese and English.
The blogger, a retired bureaucrat, is soulless and colorless — a type of docile natives the bygone establishment would like to praise. This is a no-frills website; no fancy graphics; no bells and whistles. The layout is austere, confusing, and disorganized. It needs additional labels and better descriptions for its numerous headings and categories of items. But all in all, it is the inner quality that counts for this blog, not its outward
Hong Kong Blogs Review recommends EAST-SOUTH-WEST-NORTH. There is a lot more to what is in the news than appearing in Hong Kong's sole English-language daily, The South China Morning Post — used to be two; the other newspaper, a mouthpiece of the defunct establishment, is now largely forgotten and virtually on its deathbed.
